Appearance
Zayd cuts an imposing, dignified figure whose stillness feels more threatening than motion. His weathered bronze skin has a faint satin sheen, as though fine dust has settled beneath it rather than upon it. His neatly trimmed silver beard is combed into two narrow points beneath his chin, and pale wisps of air constantly lift the outer hairs despite the stillness of the room. His flint-sharp eyes rarely blink. He moves with the careful economy of a man measuring every corridor by invisible waterlines, yet when angered he does not stride or lunge. He simply seems to arrive several inches closer between breaths. His unexpected softness is a small, almost childlike smile that appears whenever he sees a clean cup of water offered freely.

Fine water-resistant silk robes in turquoise and deep sand-brown, embroidered with hydrographic charts and tiny silver markers for old flood channels. He wears a broad linen sash, brass-capped boots stained by mineral dust, a translucent veil for tunnel work, and a master ring bearing keys to the Compact's principal cisterns.
Body Language
Zayd stands with his hands folded over the ivory rod, shoulders square and chin slightly raised. When listening, he tilts his head as if following distant underground water.
