Kaelen ibn-Kian
Scout Captain
Kaelen ibn-Kian
Species
Human
Appearance
Kaelen looks as though the sky itself has tried to claim him and failed to hold on. His youthful face is sun-bronzed and wind-polished, with a narrow scar cutting through one eyebrow and a grin that arrives before his words. His bright eyes constantly track motion, from drifting dust to the twitch of a sentry's fingers. Dark curls tumble around his head in wind-tossed loops, even underground, where stray drafts seem to find him. He moves with a spring-loaded looseness, never quite standing still, balancing on the balls of his feet as if a sudden gust might lift him. His patched glider-harness creaks like old sails, its metal ribs dulled by grit and salt. The unexpected contradiction is that his hands are remarkably delicate and clean, with neatly trimmed nails and the careful touch of someone who repairs instruments rather than merely surviving with them. He leaves behind an impression of warmth, altitude, and imminent danger.
“Fast, bright, and conversational, with sudden technical precision when discussing weather or routes. He gives commands as invitations, peppers sentences with canyon slang, and laughs at his own worst ideas.”

Distinguishing Features
A thin scar through his right eyebrow.
A brass wind gauge worn on a cord around his neck.
A red scarf with one corner burned away by lightning.
A habit of tilting his head toward distant air currents as if listening to them.
A small tattoo of three ascending chevrons behind his left ear, marking the Open Sky Compact.
Voice
“A warm, quick tenor with a rough edge from dust, altitude, and too many shouted warnings. He sounds perpetually amused until a friend's life is threatened, when every syllable becomes clipped and absolute.”
Clothing
A lightweight glider-harness made from gray, ochre, and faded blue fabric, heavily patched with mismatched sailcloth and reinforced by narrow metal ribs. He wears magnetic knee-boots, fingerless climbing gloves, a storm hood tied at his waist, a red scarf used for signaling, and a battered belt of chalk, hooks, chalk bombs, and folded route markers.
Body Language
Kaelen leans toward people when they speak, keeps one foot angled toward the nearest exit, and gestures in broad arcs like he is drawing invisible wind currents. When lying, he becomes perfectly still and rubs his thumb across the edge of his brass wind gauge.
