The Last Warm Hearth
The lodge was built two centuries ago as a wayhouse for dwarven prospectors, clan messengers, and caravans crossing the mountain pass. Its foundation was cut directly into an old defensive tunnel, and the oldest walls still bear the names of clans that vanished from the region. During the recent plague, several miners returned from a sealed lower gallery carrying the sickness. The disease spread through the lodge before anyone understood its nature. The northern half was shut down, its inhabitants confined behind the old tunnel gates. The surviving staff now operate only the southern hall while waiting for a cure, a formal quarantine order, or enough courage to reopen the sealed galleries.
