They are the children of old elf blood and the watchful Abyssal Sentinels, born with lungs for air and gills for the deep. In the courts of coral kings and on the shadowed roads beneath the waves, they move like nobility made liquid, proper in speech, exact in ritual, and terrifyingly graceful when the tide turns against their enemies.
Physical Description
Abyssal Sea-Elves are regal, long-limbed elves born with the unusual blessing of breathing both air and water. Slender gill slits trace the neck and ribs, and supple fins fringe their forearms, calves, and sometimes the jawline or ears, giving them a streamlined, dignified profile in the water. Their skin often carries the hues of moonlit surf, pearl, sea glass, deep coral, or storm-dark blue. Hair drifts and fans with a swimmer's softness, commonly braided with shells, metal rings, or ceremonial beads. Their eyes are clear and reflective, often seeming luminous in dim water. At rest they move with formal restraint, but in the sea they become swift and precise, like banners pulled by an unseen current.
Society & Culture
Their society is highly structured, with etiquette serving as both art and armor. Rank matters, but so does composure under pressure. Children are taught to swim with controlled breath, to read currents as others read roads, and to speak with precision before they are trusted to negotiate or command. Many houses maintain elaborate genealogies tied to tide cycles, reef territories, and ancient bargains with the Abyssal Sentinels. Music, calligraphy, diplomacy, and ceremonial weapon-work are all considered marks of breeding. Public emotion is not forbidden, but it is expected to arrive dressed properly. To an outsider they can seem severe, yet their severity is often a form of care, a way of keeping a fragile civilization intact under an immense and indifferent sea.
Religion & Alignment
Most Abyssal Sea-Elves revere sea powers, ancestral guardians, and the memory of the first Sentinels who taught them to endure the pressure of the deep. Their faith tends toward ritual, observance, and oathkeeping rather than zeal. They are often lawful in temperament, though not always in allegiance, and they favor alignments that reward responsibility, restraint, and long memory. Those who break from court tradition may become daring wanderers, stern judges, or fierce protectors of the coast.
Homelands & Architecture
Their homelands are usually bright reef-cities, shell palaces, kelp gardens, and tide-halls built around stone spires or drowned ruins. Their architecture favors graceful arches, coral latticework, braided currents, and chambers that can be sealed or flooded depending on the hour. Even humble homes often include ceremonial entries, mirrored pools, and carved markers that track tides, ancestry, and seasonal migrations.
Relationships With Other Peoples
They generally treat surface dwellers with cautious courtesy, assuming that outsiders can be valuable allies or disastrous pollutants. With other elves, they often behave like cousins from a stricter household, sharing blood and history but not always priorities. They respect mariners, scholars, diplomats, and anyone who keeps their promises. They are wary of salt-haunted cults, abyssal predators, and powers that demand blind devotion. Their strongest friendships are usually forged through service, not charm.
