Weapons3

A curved goblin knife with a green-stained bone handle. It is sold as a practical backup weapon, though every knife comes with a different story about how it was acquired.

A shortbow sized for goblin hunters, wrapped in waxed leather and decorated with tiny brass bells that have been carefully muffled.

A battered handaxe with a painted eye on the haft. The goblins insist the eye helps it find people who owe them money.

Miscellaneous14

Twenty mismatched arrows, some fletched with crow feathers, some with scraps of dyed cloth, and a few with suspiciously familiar military markings.

A dented lantern with a blue flame that never consumes oil. It smells faintly of burnt cabbage when first lit.

Light can be activated or extinguished by opening or closing the hood.

A crimson cloak stitched from mismatched velvet, spider silk, and what may once have been a theater curtain. It makes its wearer look important from a distance.

Dramatic billowing; harmless illusion

A ratty pouch that always contains one more piece of chalk than it should. The available colors change according to the owner's mood.

Creates colored chalk marks

A little wooden box with a hinged lid, copper wire, and a button made from a molar. Goblin scouts use it to identify guards, passwords, and sleeping animals.

Records and repeats a brief recent sound

A cracked glass orb containing glittering ash. The goblins claim it once belonged to a famous archmage, though they have six identical orbs in stock.

A scavenged adventurer's pack with several useful additions, including a whistle, three bent tent pegs, and a handwritten warning about a dungeon that no longer exists.

A compact set of lockpicks hidden inside a hollowed-out wooden rat. The tools are well used, expertly maintained, and definitely not legally sourced.

A wax-sealed eggshell packed with enchanted dust. The goblins sell these as escape tools, party favors, and 'instant dramatic entrances.'

Creates colorful obscuring smoke; no damage

A battered traveling case filled with soot, wax, fake eyebrows, false scars, and three convincing sets of fake ears.

A copper ear cuff decorated with a tiny grinning skull. It is popular with smugglers, informants, and goblins who pretend not to be listening.

Replays one recent spoken message

Three oversized caltrops stamped with the mark of a long-forgotten mercenary company. One has been painted to resemble a tiny goblin skull.

Creates a small mundane hazard

A black-green paste sold only after the shopkeeper has checked that the buyer understands the phrase, 'No stabbing customers inside the bazaar.'

Poison; illegal or restricted in many settlements

A polished bead of volcanic glass wrapped in copper wire. The goblins call it a 'polite distraction' and sell it with a wink.

Brief flash and thunderclap; no damage
Potions1

A cloudy red potion in a stoppered clay bottle. The label reads, 'Probably Safe, Definitely Useful.'

Where The Take Sits

The shop's cash and most portable valuables are divided between a false-bottomed counter, a locked display case, and a cramped rear loft. More dangerous or incriminating goods are hidden behind false bricks and beneath ordinary stock. Tin cups, hanging spoons, and a goblin lookout perched in the rafters provide overlapping warnings.

On Failure

If the party fails the theft attempt, a string of hidden tin cups rattles in the rafters. Two goblin lookouts drop from the ceiling while the shopkeeper slams a brass alarm gong. The goblins do not immediately attack unless threatened, but they surround the exits, demand repayment at triple value, and send a runner to alert nearby bazaar guards. A second failed attempt, or any violence, turns the encounter hostile.

Shop Atmosphere

The shop is called The Crooked Candle, a cramped magic emporium wedged beneath a maze of rope bridges, patched awnings, and hanging market signs in the Goblin Bazaar. Its exterior is assembled from painted doors, wagon panels, blackened shutters, and a chimney that exhales purple sparks whenever someone lies inside. Strings of colored glass, stolen holy symbols, bent spoons, and tiny cages filled with harmless glowing beetles hang from the ceiling. Every aisle is narrow enough to force armored customers to turn sideways, and several shelves are deliberately tilted so loose merchandise slides toward the counter whenever anyone bumps the floorboards. The air smells of lamp oil, mushroom broth, damp wool, and ozone. A brass bell above the entrance whispers the name of every creature that enters, though it often mispronounces adventurers' names for comedic effect. The shopkeeper, Vekka Nacklegrin, is a wiry goblin with copper-green skin, one enormous amber eye, and a missing left ear replaced by a hinged brass listening device. Vekka wears a patched purple coat covered in sewn pockets, each labeled with a warning such as 'Probably Cursed,' 'Definitely Stolen,' or 'Ask Before Touching.' Vekka is cheerful, shrewd, and scrupulously polite by goblin standards. They trade with adventurers as long as the customers do not cause trouble, and they openly buy stolen goods at half their normal value while selling their wares at three times the usual rate. Vekka prefers negotiation to violence but keeps two goblin assistants hidden among the rafters and a trained giant rat named Magistrate beneath the counter. Customers who behave are offered mushroom tea and a stool. Customers who draw weapons are offered one warning, then a smoke egg is thrown at their feet while the shop's shutters slam closed. The bazaar's unwritten rules matter here: do not insult the merchandise, do not ask where an item came from, and never accuse Vekka of selling something cursed unless prepared to prove it. Vekka occasionally accepts favors, maps, rumors, or the return of stolen goods in place of coin, but always marks such arrangements in a ledger using a cipher that resembles childish doodles.
