In the first age, the polar world was sealed beneath eternal darkness. Elyndra raised a spark, Morvane surrendered a portion of the deep, and Vaelora divided the resulting light into paths of consequence. Nyr charted the paths, Orrun struck them with the first storm, Sereveth opened hidden passages between them, and the remaining Aurorans gave the light purpose through struggle, community, transformation, and care. Thus the Aurora was born not from one creator, but from a dangerous act of cooperation among opposed powers.

The world hangs beneath the Celestial Ice, an immense polar firmament through which the Aurora flows like a river of living fate. Elyndra is said to have kindled its first light, while Vaelora gave its colors meaning. Nyr charts its currents, Orrun disrupts them, and Sereveth hides secret paths within them. Beneath the mortal world lies the Black Polar Sea, guarded by Morvane. The aurora touches every living soul through threads that may be strengthened, redirected, or broken. The gods are not omnipotent authors but powerful custodians, each responsible for one tension within existence.

The Aurorans have no single earthly hierarchy. Instead, their religion is organized into ten interwoven traditions called the Ribbons, each devoted primarily to one deity while acknowledging all the others. Most temples are circular and contain ten alcoves around a central open roof through which the Aurora can be seen. A local Confluence, composed of one priest or priestess from each active Ribbon, settles disputes and coordinates festivals. The faith recognizes three broad paths: the Radiant Concord, centered on Elyndra, Vaelora, Nyr, Thalen, and Ilyra; the Wild Veil, centered on Orrun, Sereveth, and Veyr; and the Shadow Covenant, centered on Kaelith, Ruun, and Morvane. Peaceful communities encourage all three paths to participate, believing that excluding any divine tension invites catastrophe.

The Aurorans are intensely involved in mortal life. Their priests serve as judges, healers, navigators, rulers, rebels, undertakers, artists, and keepers of communal fires. Miracles are possible but never free: divine aid creates obligations, alters relationships, or shifts the Aurora's balance. Mortals may question, bargain with, defy, or even temporarily embody the gods. The central religious teaching is that fate is a conversation between the heavens and the living, and that every mortal choice changes what the gods themselves can become.

The Aurorans teach that the dead ascend the Aurora Stair, where souls are weighed by Vaelora and guided by Nyr by their remembered choices. The steadfast join the Constellation Choir beneath Elyndra; the unresolved are returned to mortal dreams by Orrun; the oathbreakers descend into the Black Polar Sea, where Morvane keeps them from troubling the living. Even death is considered a passage in the shared design of fate, not an ending.
