The Twelvefold Concord
Origin
At the first dawn of Asterra, the raw powers of existence gathered around a dying star. Solara claimed its radiance, Nyxara its shadow, Verdara its living pulse, Morvane its cooling shell, Pyrrha its inner fire, Kaelith its flowing blood, Zephriel its breath, Tharos its weight, Dravaryn its hidden pattern, Erebion its final silence, Lyra its turning motion, and Aurion the freedom to choose what the star would become. Together they shaped Asterra, then bound themselves to its cycles so no single divine will could rule creation forever.
Cosmology
Asterra rests within the Turning Wheel, spun by Lyra and anchored by Tharos. Above it burns Solara's Dawnfire, below it coils Nyxara's Starless Deep, and around it drift the storm roads of Zephriel. Verdara feeds the living world, Morvane guards what must endure, Pyrrha kindles invention, and Vaelor shapes mortal civilization. Dravaryn binds magic and dragons into the world's hidden structure, while Erebion waits beyond the Wheel to dissolve all things when their appointed cycle ends.
Structure
The religion is organized as the Twelvefold Concord, a decentralized network of temples, shrines, monasteries, wandering priests, civic orders, mystery cults, and household altars. Each deity has its own clergy and rites, but major cities maintain Concord Houses where representatives debate doctrine and coordinate aid. The High Synod consists of twelve seats, one for each god, though Aurion's seat is traditionally occupied by a mortal chosen through a public act of sacrifice or mercy. The Concord teaches that no deity may be understood alone. Every sermon, ceremony, and sacred law must acknowledge at least one opposing divine principle.
Mortal Relations
The gods remain closely involved in mortal life. They answer through omens, dreams, weather, sudden instincts, miraculous survivals, prophetic beasts, and rare physical manifestations. Temples serve as hospitals, archives, courts, workshops, shelters, observatories, and sanctuaries. Mortals may worship one deity while honoring the others, and most communities maintain a shared shrine to all Twelve. Divine conflict appears through competing miracles, disputed holy sites, contradictory visions, and champions whose choices can alter the balance.
Afterlife
The dead pass through the Twelvefold Veil. Solara weighs their deeds against Vaelor's laws, Nyxara opens the road through darkness, and Erebion receives those whose names have faded. Most souls journey to the divine realm that best reflects their deepest choices, though every soul eventually returns to Asterra through Lyra's turning cycle.
