Master Marwan ibn-Kahn

0·Male·Medium
Lawful Neutral with radical commitments to public truth

Species

Stoneborn human

Appearance

Master Marwan ibn-Kahn is a frail, venerable figure of chalk-gray stone, his skin deeply weathered into fine branching cracks that collect pale salt dust. His amber eyes remain startlingly sharp behind thick quartz magnifying lenses, and his long white beard hangs in layered ropes, each strand glittering as if frosted. He moves with a soft, deliberate shuffle that suggests exhaustion until someone mishandles a tablet, at which point he crosses the room with unnerving speed. His hands are thin and jointed like carved roots, but they never tremble while touching fragile artifacts. He leaves behind the scent of dry stone, lamp oil, and seawater. The unexpected contradiction is that his ancient face and skeletal frame conceal a remarkably powerful grip, capable of snapping a wax seal or pinning a much younger radical's wrist to a desk.

Height5 feet 4 inches
BuildNarrow, stooped, and deceptively sturdy, with the compact density of weathered limestone
EyesDeep amber with narrow black pupils, magnified by thick quartz lenses
HairWhite, with a faint gray cast where it has absorbed mineral dust
SkinChalk gray stone with pale mineral veining and salt collected in the cracks

His voice is dry, low, and carefully measured, like a stylus dragged across unfired clay. He pauses before names and dates, gives ordinary objects formal titles, and becomes almost whisperingly gentle when reciting the dead.”

Distinguishing Features

Thick quartz magnifying lenses mounted in a bronze frame

A flowing white beard dusted with permanent salt crystals

Three small ceramic fragments embedded beneath the skin of his left palm

A master key worn under his robe on a cord of braided surveyor's rope

Fingertips stained dark from centuries of ink, soot, and mineral dust

Voice

An elderly baritone, brittle at the edges but carrying with surprising authority through stone corridors

Clothing

A heavy salt-stiffened linen scholar's robe in faded cream and gray, reinforced with padded pockets for fragile artifacts. Beneath it he wears a sleeveless archival vest, fingerless archival gloves, wrapped leg bindings, and soft leather slippers designed for silent movement across basalt floors.

Body Language

Marwan keeps one hand folded behind his back around the master key while the other traces invisible letters in the air. He tilts his head toward the quietest person in a room, watches hands rather than faces, and becomes unnaturally still when someone mentions the sealed foundational vaults.
