Kaelen ibn-Zayd
Veteran Airship Commander
Kaelen ibn-Zayd
Species
Air Genasi
Appearance
Kaelen ibn-Zayd is a weathered air genasi whose body seems permanently shaped by altitude and hard wind. His skin is bronze-gray with faint cloudlike swirls beneath the surface, as though storm vapor has settled under his flesh. Steel-gray hair streams backward even in still rooms, coarse at the temples and silvered by salt, ash, and age. Deep laugh lines frame eyes the color of rainwater over dark stone, though his expression usually suggests he has not laughed in years. His movements are economical and shipsteady, with every step placed as if the floor might suddenly tilt. He leaves behind the impression of a battered iron monument: intimidating at first glance, reassuring once the danger begins. The contradiction is that his enormous, scarred hands are remarkably gentle with frightened children, injured birds, and delicate navigation instruments.
“His voice is a low, dry baritone roughened by wind exposure. He speaks in short, practical sentences, pausing before important truths as if checking whether the air itself is safe.”

Distinguishing Features
A pale lightning scar runs from his right temple to the corner of his mouth.
His hair and scarf move constantly, even in sealed rooms.
The Golden Fleet insignia on his breastplate is visibly scorched through the center.
His left boot contains a hidden emergency anchor spike.
He wears seven small brass tokens, one for each crew member he failed to save during the Nine Bells disaster.
Voice
“A low, weather-roughened baritone with the carrying power of a harbor bell and the patient menace of distant thunder.”
Clothing
A reinforced navy-blue command coat layered over segmented windsteel armor, trimmed in tarnished gold and bearing the scorched insignia of the Golden Fleet. He wears a storm-gray scarf, reinforced wind-leather boots with magnetic deck-locks, heavy weather-gloves, a brass signaling spyglass, and a chain of crew tokens hidden beneath his collar.
Body Language
Kaelen stands with his feet angled against imagined deck movement, one hand near his cutlass and the other resting on his spyglass. When angry, he becomes perfectly still. When worried, the fingers of his left hand tap out old signal codes against his thigh.
