Appearance
Captain Jafar ibn-Kian is a broad-shouldered, sun-burnished man whose presence seems to arrive several seconds before he does, announced by booming laughter, jingling coins, and the perfume of cardamom oil. His skin is rich copper-brown, weathered across the cheeks and forehead by years of high-altitude glare. A magnificent black-and-silver mustache curls upward like two storm clouds caught in a favorable wind, each end stiffened with wax and decorated with a tiny brass bead. His merry eyes are quick, dark, and calculating, constantly measuring exits, hands, pockets, and the emotional temperature of a room. He moves with theatrical swagger on solid ground, but becomes eerily graceful aboard an airship, stepping across tilted decks as if gravity were merely a suggestion. His fingers are thick and ringed, yet nimble enough to open a lock while applauding a performance. The unexpected contradiction is that his flamboyant clothing and thunderous manner conceal an almost monk-like stillness whenever he hears the name of a lost pilot.
“A resonant, rolling voice that can fill an engine room without strain. Jafar laughs like a cannon misfiring in celebration, but his serious voice is low, clipped, and startlingly intimate.”

Distinguishing Features
Magnificent waxed mustache with brass beads at the tips
A thin white scar running from his right ear to the corner of his mouth
A jeweled captain's ring containing a hidden compartment for a miniature route cipher
Boot soles that snap audibly to metal decking when their magnetic clamps engage
A habitually spotless left glove contrasted with a grease-stained right glove
Voice
“Booming, musical, and warmly theatrical in public, with a sudden dry whisper when discussing betrayal or death”
Clothing
A sumptuous crimson, saffron, and turquoise captain's coat with gold piping, weatherproof velvet panels, and dozens of hidden inner pockets. Beneath it he wears a cream linen shirt, a layered sash containing lockpicks and coded route markers, high black leather boots fitted with magnetic clamps, fingerless gloves, a braided shoulder harness, and a battered silk scarf from a pilot he failed to save.
Body Language
Jafar occupies space like a parade leader, spreading his arms, turning sharply, and leaning close as though sharing a conspiracy. He taps rings against his registry book when calculating risk. His smile grows wider when he is worried, but his left thumb presses repeatedly against the brass bead at the end of his mustache whenever someone mentions betrayal.
