Marlun Tideshade
Species
Centaur
Appearance
Marlun is a broad-shouldered centaur with a weather-beaten chestnut torso and a horse body the color of wet driftwood. His coat is silvered at the flanks where years of salt spray have bleached it pale, and his shoulders are crisscrossed with faint scars like old rope burns. He moves with the careful rhythm of a man who has spent his life balancing in a storm, each step measured, each pause deliberate. His upper half is unexpectedly neat, with sleeves rolled and mended cuffs, while his lower half is perpetually dusted with sand and salt, as if the sea itself cannot decide whether to claim or release him. When he laughs, his ears flick back in surprise, as though joy still catches him off guard.
“Measured and coastal, with a low voice that carries the scrape of rope and the hush of surf. He speaks in short, practical sentences unless he is talking about the dead, the weather, or his daughters, when his words become unexpectedly tender.”

Distinguishing Features
A crescent-shaped burn across his left palm from hot pitch
Tiny bronze rings braided into his mane, each one marking a storm season
A missing chunk from one ear where a line snapped during a gale
A stitched patch of blue sailcloth over his right shoulder from the old family banner
Always smells faintly of tar, seaweed, and rain on canvas
Voice
“Gravel-soft and tide-worn, with a habit of lowering at the end of important sentences as if sealing a knot.”
Clothing
A sleeveless indigo work tunic over a patched linen wrap, a rope belt with brass tools, salt-cured leather bracers, and a weather cloak lined with scraps of sailcloth. His mare-body is fitted with strapped canvas guards to keep barnacles, hooks, and splinters from tearing his coat while he works.
Body Language
He stands with one foreleg slightly forward as if bracing against invisible waves. His hands are constantly busy, folding, measuring, knotting, or smoothing fabric, and when he is worried he rubs thumb against forefinger as though feeling for a hidden thread.
