Detection
“The ten-foot wide corridor features a series of three-inch diameter drainage holes spaced evenly along the base of the walls. The walls are made of dark, interlocking iron plates with thin vertical slits revealing the tips of heavy spikes tucked inside the masonry.”
Standard Engagement
A creature steps on the floor or puts weight on the area surrounding the drainage holes.
None
The walls slowly retract with a loud grinding sound over the course of 1 minute.
The walls slam together at high speed. All creatures in the 10-foot-square area must attempt a DC 21 Reflex save. On a critical success, the creature is unaffected. On a success, the creature takes 2d10+10 piercing and bludgeoning damage. On a failure, the creature takes 4d10+10 piercing and bludgeoning damage and is grabbed by the spikes (Escape DC 21). On a critical failure, the creature takes 8d10+20 damage and is restrained (Escape DC 21).
If a creature fills the floor holes with at least 5 bulk of sturdy material, the DC to disable the trap with Thievery is reduced to 18, but the Reflex save DC increases to 23 as the pressure build-up causes the walls to fire more violently.
