The Yellow Crown Consortium
The Consortium began as a small clearinghouse founded by the Togar family and allied dwarven caravan masters. During its first decade, it gained credibility by honoring deposits during two regional famines and by paying merchants whose caravans disappeared. Its first major triumph came when it financed the rebuilding of three ports after a devastating naval war, receiving exclusive banking rights in return. The faction's watershed moment occurred twenty-nine years ago during the Night of Empty Coffers. A coalition of nobles attempted to seize several banks simultaneously, believing the Consortium's wealth was concentrated in the capitals. Lieutenant Rannyl Frosthead coordinated the defense of the Port Yoglin branch while the Navy moved coin and account records through hidden maritime routes. The coup failed, the conspirators were ruined by their own unpaid debts, and the Consortium emerged with stronger contracts and unprecedented political influence. Over the following decades, it opened banks across Sorania, purchased warehouses and estates, formed close ties with the Navy, and constructed the central vault in the Arctic Isles. Today it is no longer merely a banking house. It is a continental power that intends to rule through ownership, credit, and obligation.
