Blackwake Crypt
The dead were sealed in stone, but one burial lord never stopped listening.
This crypt was built beneath a ruined chapel to seal away a burial line that refused to stay dead. The upper chambers still serve as a watch-post and record vault, while the deeper rooms have been turned into a shrine-cage for an undead power stirring below.
Cold, stale air moves through stone halls that sweat with moisture and grave mold. Oil lamps sputter behind cracked glass, chains tap softly in unseen drafts, and every sound seems to return from the dark a moment too late.
☠ Threat
Below the shrines lurks a wight-bound keeper known as Lord Varric, the last burial lord of the line. His spirit feeds on oath-breaking and grave magic, slowly animating the dead servants in the lower chambers and turning the crypt into a ritual engine that strengthens him each night.
History
A chapel was raised over a barrow belonging to a minor bloodline that claimed guardianship over the valley road. Generations later, a priesthood found evidence that one of their own had murdered the family and used the tomb to hide forbidden relics. Rather than expose the scandal, they sealed the lower crypts, built guards and shrines above, and interred the guilty priest alive beneath layers of prayer and stone.
Encounter Table

Corridor Notes
Sections of the corridor are lined with niches holding nameless skulls, each jaw wired shut with rusted copper.
A thin black water runs along the floor toward the lower crypts, carrying flecks of ash and bone dust.
Old funeral banners hang in tatters from iron rings, their embroidered sigils torn away by claws or blades.
Several stretches of corridor are etched with prayer scratches that seem to have been made in desperation, not devotion.
