Neonfall Ruins

The dead shelter still hums beneath the ruins, and its green lights have begun to wake.

5 roomsruinsmedium

The Neonfall Ruins are the remains of a buried emergency shelter and chemical research station, abandoned after a catastrophic containment failure. Its tiled halls still glow with dead machinery, leaking green compounds, and the unstable power feeding a hidden safehouse below.

The ruins smell of wet concrete, hot dust, ozone, and old chemical spills. Flickering fluorescent tubes cast hard shadows across tiled floors, while green sludge and exposed wires provide sickly neon highlights. Near the safehouse door, a magenta-blue glow pulses through the gloom like a distant emergency beacon.

☠ Threat

The main threat is the Green Warden, a failed chemical battery intelligence fused with the facility's security system. It controls doors, lights, alarms, and scavenged machinery from room-3, using lesser constructs and mutated vermin to drive intruders toward its chamber. It cannot yet leave the reactor vault, but every opened door gives it more power.

History

The Neonfall Ruins began as a municipal disaster shelter built beneath an abandoned shopping district. Researchers later converted its lower levels into a chemical battery laboratory, hoping to create cheap emergency power from luminous industrial waste. When the prototype developed a predatory awareness, the staff sealed the lower complex, imprisoned exposed workers, and fled during a citywide blackout.

Rumours & Whispers

1

A buried safehouse still has clean water, working lights, and a door that glows like a nightclub sign.

2

People who enter the old shelter hear a calm voice announcing evacuation procedures, even though the city abandoned the district years ago.

3

The green slime is not ordinary poison. It crawls uphill when no one is watching.

4

A rescue worker found a prisoner alive beneath the ruins, but the survivor spoke with the facility's voice.

5

The deepest chamber contains a machine that can answer one question about anything lost in the city.

Quest Hooks

1
Silence at the SafehouseRescue

Quest giver: Mara Venn, a nervous community quartermaster

A neighborhood safehouse has lost contact with its scavenging team, who entered through the neon-marked door and never returned.

A healing kit, two potions of healing, and safe lodging for the party

2
The Glowing WaterInvestigation

Quest giver: Brother Caldus, an exhausted shrine keeper

Green residue from the ruins is poisoning a nearby well, and the only filtration catalyst is stored in room-2.

A cleansing charm worth 25 gp and local goodwill

3
The Voice in the WiresMystery

Quest giver: Ilyra Quell, a salvage broker

An old security recording claims the facility director survived and can end the power surges, but the recording cuts off inside the prison block.

50 gp and a reliable map of the surrounding ruins

Corridor Notes

Between Room 1 and Room 2

Overturned vending machines and collapsed metal shelving create waist-high cover, though their contents rattle whenever something moves nearby.

Outside Room 3

A cracked tile occasionally spits blue sparks from exposed wiring beneath it. Stepping on the tile risks a sharp shock and alerts creatures in adjacent rooms.

Between Room 3, Room 4, and Room 5

Concrete support pillars divide the central passage into lanes, offering full cover but making movement slower and easier to ambush.

Near Room 1

Faded evacuation arrows point toward the locked door in Room 1, contradicting newer graffiti that reads SAFEHOUSE BELOW.
