Blackbell Crypt
Every bell tolls for the living, and one waits beneath the stone.
The Blackbell Crypt lies beneath a ruined chapel, its passages descending through the burial vault of a forgotten order. The dead do not rest here, and something within the deepest chamber has learned to recognize the sound of living footsteps.
Cold, stale air rolls through the crypt, carrying the smells of wet stone, candle grease, and old embalming herbs. Blue witch-lights flicker in wall niches, while distant knocks, scraping bones, and whispered prayers travel through the corridors.
☠ Threat
Odran Vale, the Bellbound Revenant, lies chained in the lowest chamber. He cannot leave while the prison seal holds, but every death within the crypt feeds his strength and loosens one of the ancient chains. Odran commands the lesser dead through the bronze bells, seeking a living vessel capable of carrying his plague-touched spirit beyond the crypt.
History
The Blackbell Crypt was built two centuries ago by the Bellwardens, a funerary order devoted to containing a plague prophet named Odran Vale. When Odran returned from death as a revenant, the Bellwardens sealed him beneath the chapel and erased their names from history so no descendant could be compelled to free him. Their barracks, records, shrines, and decoy vaults remain intact.
Encounter Table
