Hollow Sepulcher
The dead were meant to rest here, but one buried will never did.
The Hollow Sepulcher is an abandoned crypt complex that has been half-looted, half-reclaimed by things that refuse to stay buried. Its upper chambers still resemble a temple of mourning, but the lower depths have become a nest of traps, secrets, and a dead ruler's lingering will.
Cold drafty halls carry the stink of damp stone, old wax, and dust that tastes faintly metallic. Torches burn with a sickly blue flame in a few chambers, while most corridors rely on weak reflected light from bone-white lichen. The dungeon is quiet in the way a grave is quiet, except for distant scratching, settling stone, and the occasional clink of chains.
☠ Threat
The crypt is slowly waking under the influence of a buried, vengeful saint whose sealed corpse radiates necrotic power. Her corruption has animated the dead, twisted the shrine wards, and turned the lower halls into a hunting ground where traps, restless spirits, and graveborn guardians defend her path to freedom.
History
Built three centuries ago by the funerary order of Saint Veyr, the Hollow Sepulcher was meant to house relics, keep royal dead from being disturbed, and seal away a heretical burial rite. When the order split over what to do with a forbidden corpse, one faction entombed the other alive, then rewrote the records and locked the surviving chamber network behind layered wards and lies.
Encounter Table
CRA loose cluster of burial spirits floats along the hall, drawn to warm bodies and recent prayers.
A corpse packed in ceremonial wrappings shambles from one chamber to another, carrying a broken lantern.
An armored dead watchman patrols in silence, checking locks and dragging away bodies.
A pair of ravenous bone gnawers hunt in a pack, attracted by blood and the smell of spell components.
Rumours & Whispers
They say the crypt was sealed because one of the buried saints came back wrong and started answering prayers in a dead voice.
Farmers claim blue lights move in the cemetery every third night, always heading toward the old burial mound.
A thief's guild novice swears there is a hidden archive in the crypt that lists every tomb key ever made.
People say those who hear chanting from the crypt at dawn are marked for a bad death unless the place is consecrated again.
An old priest insists the prison wing once fed power to the shrine, and that breaking the chains will wake something below.

Corridor Notes
Shallow wall niches hold nameless skulls that seem to watch travelers pass, and some turn slightly when no one looks directly at them.
A half-collapsed passage is lined with iron prayer bells. They ring softly when undead approach, giving away movement from the deeper halls.
Black candle stubs are set in rows along the floor, still warm to the touch despite the chill. Their wax smells like grave soil and myrrh.
The corridor walls are carved with tally marks and prisoner names, many scratched out violently. Fresh scratch marks continue toward the prison wing.
