The Ashen Crypt
Blue fire marks the road where the dead still wait for their king.
The crypt lies beneath a collapsed hill shrine, its burial halls still sealed by black iron and old priestly wards. Something has recently awakened below, and the dead now gather around a hidden shrine whose secret door opens toward the tomb of their forgotten king.
Cold, stale air presses through the crypt, carrying the smells of wet stone, old incense, and disturbed earth. Pale blue witchfire burns in iron sconces without warmth, while distant scraping sounds rise and fall behind the walls.
☠ Threat
Odran Vale, the Wight-King, has awakened in the sealed tomb beyond the entrance chamber. He commands the crypt's lesser dead through the corrupted shrine, draining warmth and memory from intruders so he can rebuild the Ashen Pilgrims as an undead congregation. Destroying him alone may not be enough if the shrine remains empowered.
History
The crypt was built three centuries ago by the Ashen Pilgrims, a funerary order that guarded the dead of the surrounding villages. Their high priest, Odran Vale, constructed the inner shrine to guide souls beyond the mortal world. When raiders desecrated the graves, Odran bound himself to the crypt as an eternal guardian, becoming the first Wight-King.

Corridor Notes
Shallow niches line the connecting passage, each holding a skull with a silver nail driven through its brow. Removing a nail causes the skull to whisper the name of the last person who touched it.
Thin black roots push through cracks in the masonry and twitch whenever living creatures pass. They are harmless, but their movement can be heard from either adjacent room.
A faded funeral procession is painted along the stone, showing mourners entering the crypt and never emerging. The final figure in the mural wears a crown matching the boss's burial mask.
